BankLeumi, Committee to Return Holocaust Property to Mediation

Member of Knesset Ze’ev Bielski is scheduled to tell the Knesset Finance Committee on Tuesday that his staff has succeeded in bringing Bank Leumi and the Committee to Return Holocaust Property to arbitration, which will speed up the dispute between them faster than through the courts.

The goal is to get money into the hands of the committee to relay to Holocaust survivors and their heirs. Bielski got involved in recognition that survivors are passing away daily. Arbitration is expected to take months instead of years.

Former Nazi prisoners demand cancellation of Bandera hero title

MOSCOW, January 28 (Itar-Tass) – A legal action demanding the recognition of Stepan Bandera as a Nazi criminal, guilty of the genocide of Poles, is being prepared in Poland, a representative of the Russian Union of Former Minor Prisoners of Nazi Concentration Camps told Itar-Tass.

“On the eve of the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory over Nazism, for the first time in world practice, the title of a national hero was conferred on Stepan Bandera — a zealous accomplice of Hitler. Bandera, the leader of the ‘organisation of Ukrainian nationalists,’ closely cooperated with Nazis during World War II and took part in the creation of SS units, which fulfilled punitive tasks. They brutally murdered hundreds of thousands of Jews, Poles, Russians and Ukrainians. They burned alive peaceful civilians in the villages of Belarus, which was invaded by Nazis, specifically in the village of Khatyn,” he said.

Former prisoners of Nazi concentration camps reminded that “Roman Shukhevich, an SS hangman who took part in punitive expeditions, was also conferred the title of the hero of Ukraine. “The minor prisoners of Nazi camps, integrated in the Russian Union of Former Minor Prisoners of Nazi Concentration Camps, insist on the cancellation of those shameful decrees,” said the representative of the Union. “A legal action demanding the recognition of Bandera as a Nazi criminal, guilty of genocide of Poles, is being prepared in Poland.”

Armenian Mirror Spectator: Ambassador Morgenthau’s Personal Library Donated To the Armenian Genocide Museum of America

By Editor on Nov 28, 2009 in Armenia

WASHINGTON — The personal library of US Ambassador Henry Morgenthau, renowned for his extraordinary efforts to bring American and international attention to the Turkish government’s deportation and massacres of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, has been donated to the Armenian Genocide Museum of America (AGMA).

“We are extremely grateful to the Morgenthau family for entrusting this invaluable collection of books to the museum, which provides a window into the breadth and depth of the Ambassador’s intellectual acumen and his humanitarian outlook,” said Van Z. Krikorian, museum trustee and chairman of the project’s Building and Operations Committee. “In the pantheon of heroes who have fought against genocide, the Morgenthau name is legendary. This collection is priceless and wonderful Thanksgiving news,” added Krikorian.

The gift of Ambassador Morgenthau’s personal library, which has been privately held by his family since his death in 1946, comes to AGMA from Henry Morgenthau III, the son of Henry Morgenthau Jr., and the grandson of the Ambassador. In making the gift to AGMA, Henry Morgenthau III said “I am only putting Ambassador Morgenthau’s effects where they belong.”

BBC: Polish woman’s Jewish “shock”

Next week, John Demjanjuk will stand trial in Germany accused of helping to murder more than 27,000 Jews at the Sobibor death camp, built by the Nazis in Poland. The BBC’s Steve Rosenberg travelled to Poland to meet a woman who only recently discovered she, herself, was Jewish and that her family had been killed in one such camp.

Bogomila always suspected that her mother had a secret.

“She always looked frightened,” Bogomila tells me. “My husband used to say, “Your mother is afraid of her own shadow.”

This summer, her 67-year-old mother Barbara finally revealed her secret. She is a Jewish child of the Holocaust. Suddenly, at the age of 37, Bogomila realised she was Jewish, too.

“I was in shock,” Bogomila admits. “I didn’t sleep at all that night. I couldn’t eat for the next two weeks.”

JTA: Hezbollah presses school into pulling Anne Frank

November 9, 2009

WASHINGTON (JTA) — Hezbollah pressured a private school in Beirut to drop from its curriculum a textbook containing excerpts of “The Diary of Anne Frank.”

The English-language school, which asked not to be identified, acceded to pressure after Hezbollah’s Al-Manar television station ran a segment chiding the school for including the posthumously published Holocaust memoir in its lessons, the French news agency AFP reported.

Hezbollah, which Israel and the United States consider a terrorist group, called the diary’s inclusion part of “an open arena for the Zionist invasion of education.”

Attorney Naim Kalaani, a member of a committee to ban Zionist products, told Al-Manar the use of the book in a school constituted a violation of Lebanon’s penal code and “tantamount to a step toward normalization” in ties with Israel. Hezbollah could not be reached by the station for comment.

The Paris-based organization Aladdin’s Project, which fights Holocaust denial and was the first to translate Anne Frank’s diary into Arabic, issued a statement condemning Hezbollah’s “intimidation campaign.”

The American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors denounced what it called a disgraceful act as a “twin blow against decency. It is a blatant expression of Holocaust denial, and an assault on one of the great works of modern literature and civilization.”

This marks the second time in a month that Hezbollah has pressured a school into censoring information it dislikes. In October, the International College, one of Lebanon’s most renowned private schools, agreed to put opaque stickers over pages of a textbook that named Hezbollah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad as terrorist organizations.
